This is a wonderful Spanish film by director Fernando Leónde Aranoa who is also the writer. Two women who are both prostitutes by
profession start out as rivals and gradually become very close friends. Viewers watching this film experience the fears, dreams and desires of Caye, the Spanish woman and her friend Zulema who is from the Dominican Republic.
One of the funniest quotes in this film, said by Caye to
Zulema: “I’m saving some money to buy a pair of boobs like yours.”
I loved this touching quote from the film which might make your eyes water, even just a teensy bit: “We exist because
someone thinks about us, not vice versa.”
If you happen to get hold of the DVD of this film, it includes
an interesting little featurette called The Making of Princesas. I'm really not into films about prostitutes but I think that Princesas is a very good Spanish film about this topic and it deals with some difficult issues that real prostitutes face. This film is funny, sexy, sad and (warning!) has some moments that are very difficult to watch.
Below are some scenes from this film.
